We decided that we wanted to live on a boat in 2005.  This is a big step, and not one to be entered into lightly.  It is also more difficult that one might think.  So, instead of rushing into a foolish decision we thought we would get a small-ish boat and learn as much as we could before committing large amounts of money and time to a live-aboard.

We started this experiment from a position of total ignorance, with the hope that we would end up knowing enough to make the right decisions and to have lots of fun on the way.  We remain in a position of near-total ignorance, but we have learned a few things which I wanted to share with anyone ‘lucky’ enough to stumble upon this site.

I’ve been thinking of writing this blog for some time but it seemed like such irrelevant vanity that I ended up not doing anything.  However, recent experiences (in particular spending weeks trying to identify my engine so that I can fix it) have made me think that there are things I could share that might have a slight chance of helping someone else in a similar position.  It still seems like irrelevant vanity to me.  If it seems like that to you then feel free to browse elsewhere.  Otherwise, enjoy.
